November 2026 in Maharashtra: Diwali, Kartiki Ekadashi, Tripurari Purnima and the month’s holidays, date by date
Published:

This November is crowded with festivals. Diwali takes up the first fortnight, and Kartiki Ekadashi, Tulsi Vivah and Tripurari Purnima follow in the second. The state government’s 2026 list of public holidays has three days this month: Sunday 8 November (Lakshmi Pujan), Tuesday 10 November (Bali Pratipada) and Tuesday 24 November (Guru Nanak Jayanti). Dates that depend on the tithi follow Drik Panchang’s calendar for Mumbai unless another basis is given.
Public holidays (state government list)
- Sunday, 8 November: Diwali Amavasya (Lakshmi Pujan). As it falls on a Sunday, there is no extra day off.
- Tuesday, 10 November: Diwali (Bali Pratipada)
- Tuesday, 24 November: Guru Nanak Jayanti

- Saturday, 21 November: Kartiki Ekadashi at Pandharpur. Drik Panchang also places the Vaishnava Ekadashi on this day. It is Kartik Shukla Dwadashi too, the day Tulsi Vivah begins
- 21 to 24 November: the Tulsi Vivah period. Drik Panchang gives 21 November as the date for Tulsi Vivah and notes that the days from Prabodhini Ekadashi to Kartik Purnima are also held auspicious for the ritual.
- Tuesday, 24 November: Kartik Purnima (Tripurari Purnima) and Guru Nanak Jayanti. In Mumbai, the Purnima runs from 11.42 pm on 23 November to 8.23 pm on 24 November.
- Thursday, 26 November: Constitution Day. The Constituent Assembly adopted the Constitution on 26 November 1949. The day also marks 18 years since the 2008 terror attacks on Mumbai.
- Friday, 27 November: Sankashti Chaturthi
- Saturday, 28 November: death anniversary of Mahatma Jyotirao Phule, who died on 28 November 1890
Mahatma Phule’s bicentenary year
Mahatma Phule was born on 11 April 1827. To mark his 200th birth anniversary, the Centre has begun a two-year nationwide commemoration running from 11 April 2026 to 11 April 2028, the Press Information Bureau (PIB) said. The state government also launched a year of programmes on 11 April, and the School Education Department announced a year-long action plan for all schools, All India Radio reported. This year’s death anniversary on 28 November therefore falls in the bicentenary year.
Why some dates differ
- Bali Pratipada: Drik Panchang’s festival list places Bali Pratipada and Govardhan Puja on Monday, 9 November, because the Pratipada tithi begins at 12.31 pm that day and ends at 2 pm on 10 November. The state government’s holiday list, the Reserve Bank and the Marathi calendar published by Lokmat all give Padwa in Maharashtra as Tuesday, 10 November.
- Ekadashi: Drik Panchang lists the Smarta Ekadashi on 20 November and the Vaishnava Ekadashi on 21 November. At a planning meeting for the Pandharpur Kartiki yatra, sub-divisional officer Sachin Ithape said Kartiki Shuddha Ekadashi falls on Saturday, 21 November and that the yatra period runs from 10 to 28 November.
- Tithi timings shift slightly from place to place; for your own town, check a local panchang.
Plan ahead
- Banks: the Reserve Bank’s lists for its Mumbai and Nagpur offices show bank holidays on 10 and 24 November. Branches are also shut on the second and fourth Saturdays (14 and 28 November) and on every Sunday, so plan branch visits around these dates.
- Share market: there is no trading on the NSE or BSE on 10 and 24 November. Both exchanges have announced a Muhurat trading session on Sunday, 8 November, from 2.20 pm to 3.30 pm.
- Schools: Diwali break dates vary by district. The circulars give Pune district’s secondary schools 5 to 18 November, for instance, and Latur district 5 to 24 November. Go by the date your child’s school gives you in writing before booking travel home.
- Pandharpur: officials told the planning meeting that about 8 to 10 lakh devotees come for darshan during the Kartiki yatra. If you plan to go around 21 November, arrange travel and a place to stay early.
- If you are travelling for Diwali, book ST or rail tickets for 8 to 11 November early.
