With Diwali in the first half of November, it pays to plan branch visits now. For November 2026, the holiday lists of the Reserve Bank of India’s Mumbai and Nagpur regional offices carry just two dates: Tuesday 10 November (Diwali, Bali Pratipada) and Tuesday 24 November (Guru Nanak Jayanti). Add the month’s five Sundays and its second and fourth Saturdays, and bank branches in Maharashtra will be shut on nine days in all. Both offices list the same dates, so the calendar holds across the state.

November 2026: days banks are closed

  • Sunday, 1 November: weekly holiday
  • Sunday, 8 November: weekly holiday (also Diwali Lakshmi Pujan)
  • Tuesday, 10 November: Diwali, Bali Pratipada (Padwa)
  • Saturday, 14 November: second Saturday
  • Sunday, 15 November: weekly holiday
  • Sunday, 22 November: weekly holiday
  • Tuesday, 24 November: Guru Nanak Jayanti
  • Saturday, 28 November: fourth Saturday
  • Sunday, 29 November: weekly holiday

Days branches stay open

  • Monday, 9 November: some panchangs mark Padwa on this day, but the RBI and state government lists put the Padwa holiday on the 10th, so banks are open on the 9th.
  • Wednesday, 11 November (Bhaubeej): the state government has declared an additional holiday for its own offices this year, but the date is not on the RBI’s Mumbai or Nagpur list, so banks will work as usual.
  • Saturdays, 7 and 21 November: the first and third Saturdays are working days.

What is left of October

This weekend, banks are closed on Saturday 24 October (the fourth Saturday) and Sunday 25 October. The month’s fifth Saturday, 31 October, is a working day.

Diwali week at a glance

From Sunday 8 to Sunday 15 November, branches are closed on four of the eight days: the 8th, 10th, 14th and 15th. Monday 9, Wednesday 11, Thursday 12 and Friday 13 November are working days, so bonus and salary deposits or large business payments can be handled then.

Share market: holidays and Muhurat trading

  • According to the National Stock Exchange’s official 2026 calendar, there will be no trading in shares or derivatives on Tuesday 10 November (Diwali Balipratipada) and Tuesday 24 November (Guru Nanak Jayanti). The market is open on Bhaubeej, 11 November.
  • Muhurat trading: a special session will be held on Lakshmi Pujan, Sunday 8 November. Under NSE’s circular of 19 October, the pre-open starts at 2.05 pm and regular trading runs from 2.20 pm to 3.30 pm. Business Today reports that BSE has announced the same timings.
  • On NSE’s commodity segment, the morning session is closed on 10 and 24 November but the evening session will run.

What works, and what to do

  • Even when branches are shut, UPI, mobile banking, net banking and ATMs generally keep working. Lockers, cheque deposits or document checks, though, will need a working day at the branch.
  • If you need cash for Diwali shopping, withdraw it by 6 or 7 November; ATMs can get crowded over the festival.
  • If a cheque or loan instalment falls due on a holiday, keep enough money in the account by the previous working day.
  • Check whether your own bank has issued a separate notice.
