Corrections policy
Accuracy is the foundation of our work, but mistakes happen. When we get something wrong, we correct it quickly and openly rather than hide it, in line with the Press Council of India’s norms of journalistic conduct.
How to report a mistake
Use the form on the contact page and choose “Correction to a story”. Give the story’s link, what is wrong and what is right; if you can, include evidence or a source.
Whether the mistake is in the Marathi or the English version, we check both.
What we do
- Our desk checks every report and, where needed, verifies it with the original source.
- Once a factual error is confirmed, we correct the story straight away, in both Marathi and English.
- We add a short, dated note in the “Corrections” box at the end of the story: what was wrong and what is right now.
- For a serious error, such as a wrong allegation against someone, we apologise as well as correct.
- A mistake in the printed paper is corrected prominently in the next available edition.
Small changes and updated stories
Small fixes to spelling, typing or wording that do not change the meaning are not noted separately.
When a story develops and we add new information, an “Updated” time appears at the top of the story. That is not a correction; it is the next part of the story.
Clarifications and the right of reply
When the facts in a story are right but the story is incomplete or could mislead, we publish a clarification.
Anyone we have written about has the right to give their side. We publish such a reply or rebuttal free of charge, edited only as needed.
Withdrawing a story
If a story is so wrong that it cannot be corrected, the editor withdraws it. We do not remove it silently: a note in its place explains why it was withdrawn.
Where the law or a court order requires content to be removed, we comply.
If you are not satisfied
If you are not satisfied with our decision, use our grievance redressal mechanism. Grievances are decided within a fixed time, and the page explains how to appeal further.
