Vengurla: Vengurla police have recovered about 515 grams of gold jewellery stolen from the home of a 72-year-old woman at Daboli-Mobarwadi in Vengurla taluka. The jewellery is worth about ₹20 lakh, district superintendent of police Mohan Dahikar told a press conference.
The woman had reported the theft of various gold ornaments from her home at Vengurla police station on September 23, and a case was registered under Section 305 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Police inspector Nisarga Otari led the investigation, using technical analysis and tip-offs.
Police detained a 27-year-old woman who worked in the complainant's home for questioning after finding her movements suspicious. She confessed to the theft during questioning, police said, and all the jewellery was then recovered, in the presence of two panch witnesses, from a derelict house next to her home.
The operation was carried out under the guidance of SP Dahikar, additional SP Nayomi Satam and Sawantwadi sub-divisional police officer Rajesh Bhagwat.
