Jalgaon: Jalgaon police on Friday, October 9, destroyed narcotics worth about ₹65.70 crore that had been seized in two cases in the district, including amphetamine and methaqualone. The disposal was carried out at an authorised hazardous waste treatment facility at the Ranjangaon MIDC in Pune district.

That day the sealed consignment was taken out of the strong room of Jilhapeth police station in the presence of witnesses and weights and measures inspector Gautam Bawaskar, and moved under police escort to Ranjangaon. The district narcotics disposal committee had examined and approved the proposal, after which the process was completed according to the rules, and it was video-recorded throughout.

The disposal had been ordered in line with Supreme Court directions, central government rules and instructions from the state director general of police and the anti-narcotics task force, and the local crime branch reviewed the seized goods and carried it out.

It was done in the presence of the committee headed by superintendent of police Shrikant Dhiware, under the guidance of additional SPs Sandeep Gavit and Ashok Nakhate (Chalisgaon). Deputy SP (home) Sanjay Gaikwad and police inspector Rahul Gaikwad were present.
