Solapur: To draw young people to the postal department's modern services, the state's third next-generation post office, after Mumbai and Pune, is opening in Solapur. The space, called 'Gen Z e-Katta', opens at the Gurunanak Chowk post office on Friday, October 9, Postal Day, in the presence of Maharashtra's Postmaster General Preeti Agrawal.

Architecture college students designed the roughly 300 sq ft space to look like a café. It offers free high-speed Wi-Fi, phone charging, air-conditioned seating, indoor games, reading material, and doodle and animation artwork, along with a selfie point featuring images of Lord Vitthal and the nandidhwaj flag poles that are symbols of Solapur.

Parcel packing, e-commerce bookings, UPI payments, e-KYC, Aadhaar updates, international mail, investment services and postal life insurance will all be available digitally. Many tasks can be completed on a phone by scanning a QR code, without queueing, and the aim is to finish most of them within 10 to 15 minutes.

Hemant Khadkikar, senior superintendent of the head post office, said this was a new initiative by the postal department aimed at young people.
