Gondia: To spark curiosity about science and tell students about careers in space technology, the assistant commissioner of social welfare's office and the Shiksha Bahuuddeshiya Sanstha held an 'Introduction to Space Technology' workshop at the District Planning Bhavan on October 9 under the 'Seva Sankalp' campaign. Students from government residential schools and hostels took part.

District planning officer Dr Rupeshkumar Raut interacted with the students through questions and answers. A career in this field needs a command of mathematics, physics and chemistry, he said, urging them to fix their goals and work steadily towards them. Under the innovation scheme, a single project can get up to ₹3 crore, and students can visit places such as NASA through it, he added.

District information officer Anju Nimsarkar spoke about the formation of the Earth, changes in human lifestyles and the growth of scientific research, urging students to look at everyday events scientifically. Ashok Medpalliwar, assistant scientist at the Maharashtra Remote Sensing Applications Centre in Nagpur, and assistant commissioner of social welfare Kishor Bhoyar were among those present. Students were shown how satellites are used in daily life, agriculture, mapping and geology.
