Ratnagiri: Rice and nachni, the main kharif crops in Ratnagiri district, cover about 52,000 hectares this season. With crops damaged, the administration has ordered village-wise panchnamas (loss assessments), and surveys covering 4,073.59 hectares have been completed so far, taking in 13,776 affected farmers.

Village revenue officers, rural development officers and assistant agriculture officers are visiting villages together to carry out the surveys. The administration says it is taking care that no affected farmer is left out of relief.

Sangameshwar taluka accounts for the most farmers, with 2,578 farmers and 715 hectares surveyed. Ratnagiri taluka has 1,704 farmers and 778.79 hectares, Rajapur 1,770 farmers and 599 hectares, and Dapoli 1,678 farmers and 456.07 hectares. Work is also under way in Guhagar, Lanja, Khed, Chiplun and Mandangad talukas.
