Nanded: Authorities in drought-hit Nanded district have helped farmers held in jail as undertrials obtain farmer ID cards, so that their families continue to receive the benefits of government welfare schemes. At a special camp held at the Nanded district prison on Saturday, October 10, farmer IDs were created for 42 undertrials and e-KYC was updated for 26 others in connection with the loan waiver scheme, officials said on Sunday.

Created under the Centre's AgriStack programme, the IDs should make it simpler to claim benefits under schemes such as PM-KISAN, crop insurance, crop loans, loan waivers and various farm subsidies. The aim is to ensure that families keep receiving welfare and farming benefits even while their main earning member is in jail.

The state government has declared 14 of the 16 talukas in Nanded district drought-affected, and the IDs will help farming families obtain government aid and scheme benefits.
