Washim: With drought declared in all six talukas of the district, collector Yogesh Kumbhejkar has issued an order banning the transport and sale of fodder from Washim to other districts and outside the state, so that enough remains for local livestock, Agrowon reported.

The animal husbandry department had told the administration that large quantities of fodder grown in the district were being sent for sale to other districts and border areas. If that continued, the district could face a severe fodder shortage that would put livestock at risk and could even lead to law-and-order problems, so the administration has taken this preventive step.

Under the order, moving or selling any dry or green fodder, including jowar stalks, chaff and straw, out of the district's revenue limits to other districts or states is strictly prohibited. Fodder moved under government schemes, or with the formal approval of the animal husbandry department or the district administration, is exempt.

Anyone violating the order will face legal action. The aim is to make sure the district's livestock do not run short of fodder during the drought, the collector said.
