Kalamnuri: The Bharatiya Samvidhan-Loktantra Bachao Sangharsh Samiti held a five-hour sit-in in Kalamnuri on Saturday, October 10, demanding that Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar be removed from office and action be taken against him. The protest was held before the statue of Mahatma Jyotiba Phule near the new bus stand, in support of the agitation at Jantar Mantar in Delhi led by student and youth leaders Abhijeet Dipke and Neha Bor.

Alleging that the names of 13 crore voters had been struck off the rolls in the special intensive revision (SIR), the protesters demanded the Chief Election Commissioner's removal. The protest began with garlands placed on pictures of Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar, Mahatma Gandhi, Mahatma Jyotiba Phule, Savitribai Phule and Bhagat Singh.

A memorandum addressed to President Droupadi Murmu was then handed over through tehsildar B. B. Dhut and sub-divisional police officer Mayur Rasal. Former Kalamnuri Bar Association president Adv. Ravi Shinde, Com. Champatrao Naik, Adv. Zaki Qureshi and Dr Satish Pachpute were among the many social, political, educational and cultural activists from the taluka who took part.
