Malvan: A 'Beach Lok Kala Mahotsav' (beach folk art festival) showcasing the folk arts and traditions of Konkan will be held in Malvan on Saturday, October 10, and Sunday, October 11. Organised by the Directorate of Cultural Affairs under the state's cultural affairs department, the two-day festival will feature local folk artists performing a range of art forms.

Performances will begin at 5.30 pm on both days at the Malvan port jetty parking ground, and entry is free. The festival is the idea of cultural affairs minister Adv Ashish Shelar and is being held under the guidance of the department's secretary, Dr Kiran Kulkarni.

The directorate is holding events across the state to preserve traditional folk arts and customs, and the Malvan festival is part of that effort. It will give local artists a platform and let tourists visiting Malvan, a popular destination, experience Konkan's cultural heritage.

Prashant Khedekar, director of the Directorate of Cultural Affairs, has urged residents of the Malvan area and tourists to turn out in large numbers and encourage the local artists.
