Bhandara: A newly married couple who had come home from Nagpur went to see their farm on Sunday, October 11, and stepped into the Gosikhurd right canal at Korambi in Pauni taluka to wash their muddy feet. The wife slipped and fell into the canal, and her husband jumped in to save her, Pudhari reported.
With more than four metres of water and a strong current in the canal, both were swept away. They are feared drowned and a search is on. Strong flows and darkness are hampering the search, but the police are pressing on with it.
The couple, who lived in Nagpur for work, had come to the village two days earlier to look at their ancestral farm. They had married only this summer. The incident has left the area in grief.
