Panvel: Panvel city traffic police have caught a man accused of killing his mother, elder brother and nephew over a land dispute in Buldhana district, who had fled after the crime. He was spotted at around 7 pm on Friday near the Panvel ST bus depot, where police were deployed to manage Navratri traffic.

Police noticed a man with an injured hand loitering suspiciously in the area, said Subhash Pujari, senior inspector of the Panvel traffic unit. When stopped for questioning he at first refused to give his name or address. Questioned further, he said he was from Chikhli taluka in Buldhana and had run away from home after killing three members of his family over land.

Chikhli police and the Buldhana local crime branch confirmed that a triple murder case had been registered against him at Chikhli police station and that he was absconding. On the instructions of deputy commissioner of police (traffic) Rahul Khade, he was medically examined at the sub-district hospital in Panvel before being handed to the city police.

A team from Chikhli police and the Buldhana local crime branch then came to Panvel, took him into custody and took him to Buldhana for further investigation. His relatives have been informed.
