Nanded: Under the guidance of deputy inspector general of police Shahaji Umap, the Nanded range, covering Nanded, Hingoli, Parbhani and Latur districts, is running its fourth 'illegal trades eradication drive' from October 1 to 31. In the first week, October 1 to 7, police took 222 actions, booked 335 people and seized goods worth ₹3,31,30,246.

Three actions against gutkha yielded goods worth ₹4.47 lakh, 40 actions against matka and gambling ₹17.30 lakh in cash and material, 137 actions under the prohibition law ₹8.45 lakh, and six cases under the Arms Act ₹33,800. Stocks worth more than ₹3 crore were seized in 36 other cases.

A special squad from the DIG's office raided gutkha sellers at Aundha Nagnath in Hingoli district, a gambling den at Usmannagar in Nanded district and a matka operation at Ahmedpur in Latur district.

A 'Khabar' helpline, 9150100100, has been set up so that people can report illegal trades in their area directly to the DIG's office, and Umap has urged citizens to come forward without fear.
