Jalgaon: The Jalgaon District Milk Union has raised prices of all types of its 'Vikas' brand milk by ₹2 a litre, with effect from Sunday, October 11. Gold milk now costs ₹80 a litre and cow milk ₹62.
It is the union's third increase this year, after hikes of ₹2 each on February 27 and August 12, taking the total rise in a year to ₹6 a litre.
The drought in the state has hit milk production and reduced supply, and procurement prices have risen, the union said, adding that it had to raise selling prices to cover the higher costs.
The increase will add to the household bills of ordinary consumers already stretched by rising prices.
