Nagpur: After an attack on doctors at Colors Hospital and an attempt to extort money from a doctor in Pachpaoli, Nagpur city police have drawn up a Police-Medical Connect Directory that lists 86 hospitals in Zone 2, The Times of India reported. It covers hospitals in the jurisdictions of the Sitabuldi, Sadar, Gittikhadan, Ambazari, Dhantoli and Mankapur police stations, and Zone 2 deputy commissioner of police Annapurna Singh leads the initiative.

For each hospital the directory lists its name and address, the contacts of doctors and administrative officers, and the names and phone numbers of the beat officer, senior inspector, ACP and DCP concerned. The nearest QR code point for every hospital has been marked, and beat marshals will scan it regularly and interact with hospital security staff. Hospitals can reach officers directly or through a group, and 112 remains available in an emergency.

Hospital administrators can alert the officers concerned in advance during critical cases, which can head off law-and-order problems, DCP Singh said. Police commissioner Vishwas Nangre Patil met hospital representatives, senior doctors and Indian Medical Association members on Saturday, October 10, to discuss doctors' safety. In the Pachpaoli case, an FIR was registered after the commissioner's meeting and the senior inspector concerned was suspended for the delay in action.

Police will identify old cases of attacks on doctors and monitor their trials, and are considering preventive steps such as bonds for good behaviour from the accused, the commissioner had told The Times of India in an interview.
