Pune: The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) ran a special drive in Pune division so that people get safe, good-quality edible oil during the festive season. Acting against manufacturers and sellers of oil suspected to be substandard, unsafe or wrongly labelled in Pune, Sangli, Solapur, Satara and Kolhapur districts, it raided 25 establishments, seizing 74,612 kg of edible oil worth ₹1.29 crore.

In Pune district, eight establishments were raided on October 9, and 34,481 kg of edible oil worth about ₹58.9 lakh was seized.

Samples of the seized oil will be sent to a laboratory, and further legal action will follow once the reports arrive, said D.V. Bhogawade, joint commissioner (food) of the FDA's Pune division.

Food businesses must comply strictly with the law or face stringent action, the FDA warned in an official statement.
