Ahmedpur: Dr Harivanshrai Bachchan Vidyalaya here celebrated actor Amitabh Bachchan's 84th birthday on Sunday, October 11, through an initiative called 'Madhushala to Gyanshala'. Instead of cake or candles, the event brought together literature, creativity and innovation.

Children sang the poet's verses, recorded them in their own voices and danced, said Nivrutti Yadav, founder of the government-aided school. The initiative also marked the school's 20th anniversary and was aimed at building an interest in Hindi literature, creativity and digital learning among rural children.

The students have created an audio QR-code knowledge bank through which poems and study material can be heard in Hindi, Marathi and English. The project costs nothing and follows a 'screen to voice' approach, meant to wean children off mobile games, sharpen their listening and give them a taste for literature, a school official said. To mark the actor's age, they also stood in a human chain shaped like the number 84.
