Washim: To keep the purchase of cotton at the minimum support price by the Cotton Corporation of India (CCI) transparent and effective, permanent local monitoring committees have been set up at all four procurement centres in the district. The orders were issued with the approval of collector Yogesh Kumbhejkar. The centres are at Ansing (Washim taluka), Mangrulpir, Karanja and Manora.

Each committee will be chaired by the taluka's resident naib tehsildar, with the assistant registrar of cooperative societies as member secretary, and the taluka agriculture officer, the centre head appointed by the CCI's Akola branch and the secretary of the agricultural produce market committee as members. The committees will directly oversee purchases at the centres, resolve the difficulties and registration problems of farmers bringing cotton for sale, and deal with complaints.

They will also sort out problems farmers face registering on the 'Kapas Kisan' app and spread awareness about it, and a helpline or WhatsApp number will be provided for complaints. The committees will meet every month, review procurement and report to senior offices.
