Jalgaon: Collector Rohan Ghuge inspected the works of the Bodwad area irrigation scheme and reviewed its progress and plans. At the Junone storage tank at Amadgaon, executive engineers briefed him on the proposed works, water storage arrangements and irrigation capacity.
Junone dam has a storage capacity of 120.78 million cubic metres, and the plan is to lift water from the Purna river in two stages and store it there. The scheme is considered important for overcoming water shortages caused by uncertain rainfall.
It will benefit 101 villages in Jalgaon and Buldhana districts, with 53,499 hectares planned to come under irrigation: 33,668 hectares in 63 villages of Jalgaon district and 19,781 hectares in 38 villages of Buldhana district.
Irrigation is expected to reduce farming's dependence on rain, make it possible to plan rabi and other crops, and raise productivity.
