Yavatmal: Voting for the board of the Yavatmal District Central Cooperative Bank was held across the district's 16 talukas on Sunday, October 11. With two of the 25 directors elected unopposed, 58 candidates were in the fray for the remaining 23 seats. Polling was open until 5 pm, and votes will be counted on Monday, October 12.

The Shetkari Baliraja Sahakar Panel, backed by leaders including MP Sanjay Deshmukh, guardian minister Sanjay Rathod and ministers Ashok Uike and Indranil Naik, is contesting the election, while several candidates, including a son of senior Congress leader Manikrao Thakre, are in the race from the Parivartan Panel, Dainik Prabhat reported.

Polling at the agricultural produce market committee halls in Umarkhed and Mahagaon recorded 100 per cent turnout in both taluka groups. All 80 voters, 52 in the Umarkhed group and 28 in the Mahagaon group, cast their votes, while turnout in the district group was about 80 per cent, Pudhari reported.

In the Umarkhed taluka group, former MLA Prakash Patil Devsarkar, the official candidate of the Baliraja Sahakar Panel, is in a direct fight with Ram Devsarkar of the Maha Vikas Aghadi, while the BJP's Nitin Bhutada is contesting in the Mahagaon group. Both sides have claimed victory, but the picture will be clear only after the count.
