Risod: Reservations for the sarpanch posts of 80 gram panchayats in Risod taluka were decided by a draw of lots on Friday, October 9. The draw, held in the hall of the Risod tehsil office, was chaired by sub-divisional officer and controlling officer Vaishali Devkar and tehsildar and authorised officer Pratiksha Tejankar, with assistant returning officer and naib tehsildar Gajanan Jawade present.

Forty posts fall in the open (general) category, 20 of them for women. Ten are reserved for Scheduled Castes and nine for Scheduled Caste women; nine for women from the other backward classes (OBC) and eight for OBCs; and two each for Scheduled Tribes and Scheduled Tribe women. In all, 40 of the taluka's 80 sarpanch posts will go to women.

The Scheduled Tribe posts are Koyali Khurd (R) and Dhodap Bk, and the Scheduled Tribe women's posts are Masla Pen and Wakad. The OBC category covers Karda, Kankarwadi, Khadki Sadar, Dhodap Khurd, Nandhana, Nijampur, Mothegaon and Vyad.

Deshonnati reported that the draw disappointed some established aspirants, while those hoping to become sarpanch were pleased in villages where the post fell in the open category.
