Parbhani: The allocation of district planning committee (DPC) funds caused an uproar at the Parbhani zilla parishad on Friday, October 9. A general body meeting chaired by ZP president Lata Wakale was due to begin at 2 pm, but before it could start, members raised the issue of the list of works proposed under DPC funds.
Members demanded that funds be shared equally among all of them and that a complete list of the works proposed in each member's area, and the amounts involved, be placed before the house first. They refused to let the proceedings begin until the list was produced, so the meeting could not start on time, and official business had still not begun after 6 pm.
With no solution in the hall, the members gathered in the chamber of vice-president Shrikant Vitekar, where, at their demand, the list of works proposed under DPC funds was read out and discussed. Because DPC funds pay for development works across the district, where works are planned matters greatly to members, who demanded a transparent allocation that considers every area and is unfair to no one.
