Chandrapur: Recruitment for Agniveer posts in the Indian Army has been under way since October 2 at the sports complex in Visapur, in Ballarpur taluka, and will continue until October 17. In all, 8,017 candidates are taking part: 6,556 from Vidarbha, 930 from other parts of Maharashtra and 531 from Gujarat, Chanda Blast reported.

At this stage, candidates who passed the written examination held earlier by the Army Recruiting Office in Nagpur are going through physical fitness and medical tests. The posts are Agniveer General Duty, Agniveer Technical, Agniveer Clerk/Store Keeper Technical, and Agniveer Tradesman for those who have passed Class 10 or Class 8. The process is being run under recruiting officer Colonel Anshul Shrivastava of the Nagpur office, according to the army's rules and norms.

The district administration, under collector Vasumana Pant, has provided the facilities. Meals for the candidates are being funded by 12 industrial companies in the district from their corporate social responsibility budgets, coordinated by the district supply officer. Women's self-help groups have been given paid stalls outside the sports complex gate through MAVIM and UMED, giving them a chance to do business.

The collector had held a review meeting and issued instructions on repairs and cleaning of the sports complex, drinking water, toilets, uninterrupted power, law and order, medical services, fire safety and transport. The police, zilla parishad, municipal corporation, Ballarpur municipal council and other departments are working together, and the recruitment team is housed at the taluka sports complex in Visapur, said deputy collector and district sainik welfare officer Shubham Dandekar.
