Malegaon: The Navdurga festival began in the taluka on Sunday, October 11, with 121 mandals installing idols of the goddess across the jurisdictions of the Malegaon, Jaulka Railway and Shirpur police stations, and a devotional mood in towns and villages alike.

The Malegaon police station area has 57 mandals, 22 in the town and 35 in rural areas. The Jaulka Railway area has 26, with three in Jaulka Railway village, three at Raja Kinhi and 20 in other villages. The Shirpur area has 38, 14 in Shirpur town and 24 in rural areas, and 18 villages there are celebrating under the 'one village, one Navdurga mandal' initiative.

Over the past few days, mandals had put up pandals, decorative lighting and prepared for the arrival of the idols, and temples were cleaned and painted. Women and young people in particular have been looking forward to the festival.
