Gondia: A district-level march of Other Backward Classes (OBC) will be held in Gondia on October 25 with the main demand that the upcoming caste-based census have a separate column for OBCs. The organisers also resolved to hold a 'Chalo Delhi' protest in the capital in November, Berar Times reported.

The Sakal OBC Mahamorcha, OBC Sangharsh Kruti Samiti, OBC Adhikar Manch, OBC Seva Sangh, OBC officers' and employees' federation, Yuva Bahujan Manch and Akhil Bharatiya OBC Mahasangh held a planning meeting at the local teachers' cooperative credit society on October 10 to discuss preparations for the march, an outreach campaign and the Delhi protest.

A separate column in the census is essential to establish the exact OBC population, and the central government should act on the demand at once or face a strong street agitation, the office-bearers warned. Sakal OBC Mahamorcha convener Umesh Korram, OBC Sangharsh Kruti Samiti general secretary Manoj Mendhe and OBC Adhikar Manch convener Khemendra Katre were among those present.
