Hingoli: The Republican Sena held an 'asud' (whip) protest outside the collector's office on Friday, October 9, demanding that government grazing (gairan) land being cultivated by farmers be regularised and 7/12 land records issued in their names, and that drought-hit farmers be given ₹50,000 a hectare in aid. The party's state vice-president Kiran Ghongade led the protest, and slogans rang out around the office.

A memorandum was then handed to resident deputy collector Abhimanyu Bodhwad. Its demands include regularising gairan holdings, deleting 'potkharab' (uncultivable) entries from land records, issuing farmer IDs to eligible beneficiaries and getting financial aid to farmers. The protesters were told that sub-divisional officers had been directed to accept all related proposals at their level.

Hundreds of gairan cultivators from villages including Marsul, Palasgaon, Asola, Wakodi, Belthar, Tembhurni, Murumba, Malwata, Dongargaon, Taroda, Salwa, Chondi, Borgaon and Wadhiwara took part, and vowed to keep up the struggle until they get rights to the land and farmers get financial justice.
