Akola: A goods truck carrying edible oil from Akola towards Amravati caught fire on National Highway 53 near Borgaon Manju, in the jurisdiction of the Borgaon Manju police station, on Saturday evening, October 10. The fire quickly grew fierce, and the truck and its load were gutted.
As soon as he noticed the fire, the driver kept his presence of mind, and both he and the cleaner got out of the truck safely. Because the truck was carrying edible oil, putting out the fire proved difficult. The incident caused a stir on the highway, and traffic was disrupted for a while.
Head constables Mahadev Patond and Narayan Shinde of the Borgaon Manju police station reached the spot on being informed, and police worked to get the disrupted traffic moving again. The blaze on the moving truck briefly caused alarm among motorists in the area.
