Gadchiroli: Special teachers selected through the Disha Abhiyan, a government-level campaign that runs a special curriculum for children with intellectual disabilities, were felicitated in the zilla parishad chief executive officer's chamber on October 9. They received certificates signed by the commissioner of the disability empowerment department and the zilla parishad CEO, Tarun Bharat and Berar Times reported.

CEO Suhas Gade guided the teachers on the occasion. Special teachers should work with sensitivity so that students with intellectual disabilities find daily life easier and can move about in society with ease and dignity, he said, urging them to keep working to make these students self-reliant and capable.

Chetan Hivanj, assistant commissioner of the disability empowerment department, reviewed the campaign's work. He said it should not be confined to the department's own schools and expressed the hope, to the Jai Vakeel Foundation and Research Centre of Mumbai, which runs the campaign, that the special curriculum would reach students with intellectual disabilities in all schools.

The event was organised by Disha Abhiyan coordinators Abhay Rote and Nilesh Tore. Special teachers from schools for students with intellectual disabilities attended.
