Latur: The state government has declared drought in 265 talukas and brought in a range of concessions there, one of which is a waiver of examination fees for students of schools and colleges in drought-hit areas. Accordingly, the zilla parishad's education department has told schools in the district not to collect fees from students taking the Class 10 and 12 examinations in February and March.

Since the whole of Latur district has been declared drought-hit, no headmaster should collect examination fees from Class 10 or 12 students, the department has made clear. The waiver will benefit 82,074 students: 47,555 in Class 10 and 34,519 in Class 12.

Latur taluka has the most beneficiaries, with 31,214 students, followed by Udgir (11,701), Ahmedpur (8,622), Nilanga (7,799), Ausa (7,415), Chakur (4,694), Deoni (3,195), Jalkot (3,134), Renapur (2,670) and Shirur Anantpal (1,630), the zilla parishad's education department said.
