Mumbai: Mumbai Police tightened security at Shivaji Park in Dadar on Saturday as the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) held a protest in Delhi, at Jantar Mantar, against the special intensive revision of electoral rolls and Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. A large number of police personnel were deployed at the ground and barricades were put up at several points.

Shivaji Park is one of the city's best-known venues for political and social movements, and police kept watch through the day to prevent any unauthorised protest or trouble there. No protesters arrived at the ground, however, and no incident was reported, according to reports. The party's supporters in Mumbai had planned a solidarity demonstration at August Kranti Maidan in Grant Road.

CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke, co-convenor Ashutosh Ranka and Saurav Das flew from Mumbai to Delhi on Saturday morning. Dipke and Ranka were reportedly detained by Delhi Police after landing at Indira Gandhi International Airport. The party condemned the action and demanded their release.

After the leaders left, Mumbai Police detained activists and protesters in several parts of the city and kept them at various police stations through the day, according to reports. The force remained on alert across Mumbai while the Delhi protest went on.
