Yavatmal: Storage in the Nilona and Chapadoh projects, which supply Yavatmal city, is falling by about four inches a day. These projects usually stay full until December, but this year they dropped to 87 per cent in September itself. With the government also directing a 10 per cent cut in water reservations, the available stock will have to be planned carefully, Loksatta reported.

The city has a reservation of 14 million cubic metres from the Bembla project, and the government has ordered a 10 per cent cut in that as well. Under current plans, regular supply is possible until February, but cuts may be needed in the city after that.

Because the available water must last until August 2027, its use will have to be controlled, and changing the schedule to supply water once every two to four days may be considered; no final decision on cuts has been taken yet. The city draws water from three dams. Given the storage position, residents should use water sparingly, officials of the Maharashtra Jeevan Pradhikaran said.
