Wardha: The Maharashtra State Newspaper Vendors' Association held a statewide agitation on October 9 to protest that the welfare corporation for newspaper vendors has not actually been set up despite cabinet approval. In Wardha, vendors marched from the association's office to the collectorate and submitted a memorandum to additional collector Sanjay Teli. The protest, led by association president Sunil Patankar, drew a large number of vendors, including Bandu Mule, Sanjay Devgirkar and Gajanan Masne.

Vendors have been fighting for their rights for 16 to 17 years. The cabinet approved the corporation on October 10, 2024, but its implementation has stalled, causing resentment. The memorandum demands that the corporation be started immediately, that vendors get social and economic security and that they receive the benefits of welfare schemes, Tarun Bharat reported.

In Pulgaon, vendors marched to the tehsil office, joined by their families. The Arvi taluka association submitted a memorandum to the sub-divisional officer, and vendors also protested in Hinganghat.
