Washim: A harvester on its way to harvest soybean in the fields at Sukli, near Umbarda Bazar, overturned into a deep pit beside a field on the morning of Friday, October 9, after its driver lost control. Trapped in the cabin, the driver suffered serious leg injuries and is being treated. The machine was badly damaged.

Fortunately, other farm workers were at a safe distance from the machine's cutting blades at the time, which averted a bigger tragedy.

The soybean harvest in Umbarda Bazar and the surrounding area is in its final stage, and with rain possible during the festival season and labour in short supply, farmers are relying heavily on harvesters to bring in their crop quickly. Villagers have demanded action against harvesters being driven at speed on the roads.
