Karmad: A motorcycle and a truck collided at the junction outside the Kumbhephal police outpost in the Shendra MIDC area on the Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar-Jalna highway at about 1.30 am on Sunday, October 11. A 20-year-old from Dabhadi in Badnapur taluka of Jalna district was killed, and his 25-year-old companion from the same village was injured.

According to police, the two were riding from Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar to Dabhadi when a truck coming from the MIDC side suddenly cut across their path and the motorcycle crashed into it. The truck then dragged the motorcycle about 150 feet across the junction towards Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar. Both riders were thrown onto the road, and the young man suffered serious head injuries.

The driver of an ambulance run by a religious trust reached the spot, and the two were taken to the government hospital (GHATI), where doctors declared the young man dead. His companion is being treated. Karmad police are investigating under the guidance of inspector Samratsing Rajput.

The Kumbhephal junction is always busy with vehicles from the industrial estate and highway traffic, yet its traffic signal is not working, motorists complain, which raises the risk of accidents. They want the signal restarted immediately, a traffic warden posted at the junction permanently and traffic properly managed.
