Panvel: Navi Mumbai traffic police have announced road closures and diversions in Panvel for Navratri, when shoppers crowd Karnala Circle and the Karnala vegetable market for flowers and household goods. Dr Rahul Khade, deputy commissioner of police (traffic), issued the notification.

The curbs come in two phases. The first runs from October 9 (10 am) to October 11 (9 pm), and the second from October 17 (6 am) until midnight on October 20. Vehicles are barred in both directions between Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Chowk and the Karnala vegetable market, traffic between Karmaveer Bhaurao Patil Chowk and the market circle is restricted, and the road from Uran Naka to the market circle via Tapal Naka is shut to regular traffic.

Drivers heading for Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Chowk or the Karnala market should take Panchratna Chowk instead. Vehicles coming from Uran Naka can go via Panchratna Chowk or Vishrali Naka, depending on where they are going.

Police and government vehicles, fire engines, ambulances and other essential services are exempt. The traffic department has asked motorists to follow the diversions and cooperate with traffic staff so that the market areas stay free of jams through Navratri and Dussehra.
