Nalasopara: A bhumipujan (groundbreaking) ceremony was held on Friday, October 9, for a new water storage tank in Nalasopara East's Shri Ram Nagar and Bilalpada areas. The tank is proposed under the Centre's AMRUT 2.0 scheme, and the event was organised by the Bahujan Vikas Aghadi.

Former MLA Kshitij Thakur and Vasai-Virar mayor Ajiv Patil, who presided, performed the ceremony. The tank, with a capacity of 1.7 MLD, will be built on a plot of about nine gunthas in Shri Ram Nagar, Bilalpada. The organisers put the cost of the overall project at about ₹321 crore.

Deputy mayor Marshal Lopes, former MP Baliram Jadhav and former MLA Rajesh Patil were among those present, along with corporators, Bahujan Vikas Aghadi office-bearers and a large number of residents.

Residents of the area have faced water shortages for a long time, and the project is intended to improve supply in the neighbourhood.
