Nagpur: The Centre, the state government and the Nagpur Municipal Corporation have together approved ₹61.96 crore to speed up the long-awaited Nag river rejuvenation project, The Times of India reported. The amount is part of the ₹1,927-crore project to curb pollution in the river and restore its ecological condition.

The Centre's share is ₹37.18 crore (60 per cent), the state's ₹15.49 crore (25 per cent) and the corporation's ₹9.29 crore (15 per cent). The first major instalment will be released through the Centre's SNA-SPARSH fund-management system, with the transactions routed through the Reserve Bank of India, the state environment department said.

The Centre will directly bear more than ₹78 crore of consultancy-related spending on the larger project, and the remaining works will be taken up as separate components, NMC sources said. The Nag river, closely tied to the city's history, has suffered from pollution for years.
