Mumbai: The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation's R North ward on Friday, October 9, demolished 30 structures on the western side of the Borivali Connector that were obstructing the alignment of the Mumbai Coastal Road (North), clearing the way for the next phase of the project, the Free Press Journal and Loksatta reported.

The drive comes under the project's Package F, a 3.47-km elevated road between the Gorai and Dahisar interchanges. It was carried out under the guidance of the zone 7 deputy municipal commissioner and led by the assistant commissioner, with five engineers, 20 civic staff, two excavators, two backhoe loaders and three dumpers. Police from the Maharashtra Housing Board Colony police station were deployed for security.

The Mumbai Coastal Road (North), the Versova–Dahisar–Bhayander coastal road that will link up with the Goregaon–Mulund Link Road, is being built in seven packages. The roughly 20-km road is estimated to cost ₹16,621 crore. Separately, a 5.6-km, 45-metre-wide elevated road will connect Dahisar to Bhayander at a cost of ₹3,304 crore.

The project is meant to ease traffic congestion and improve connectivity along the coast. It aims to bring journey times down to 15–20 minutes from 90–120 minutes and cut carbon emissions by 55% through lower fuel use.
