Pune: Applicants for the housing lottery announced by MHADA's Pune Housing and Area Development Board for flats in Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad are running into technical trouble. Barcode verification of documents such as domicile and income certificates is failing on the MahaIT server, leaving hundreds of applications stuck.

An application cannot be completed by paying the deposit until the documents are approved. More than a lakh applications have been filed so far. The original deadline of September 30 was extended to October 15 because of technical problems, but the server troubles have continued, and with only a few days left, applicants are frustrated.

According to the office, a fault in the MahaIT system has left verification of more than 18,000 documents pending at MHADA's back end. Because documents are not approved in time, applicants keep uploading them again, adding to the load on the system.

Another extension of the deadline is considered likely.
