Malvan: With the number of stray dogs in Malvan rising, the municipal council began a drive on October 9 to catch the dogs and sterilise them. The aim is to keep residents safe and to bring the dog population under control.

The Society for Animal Protection, Nagpur, has been appointed for the work through the council's annual tender. It will catch stray dogs in different parts of the town and sterilise them. The drive is being carried out under the guidance of chief officer Pratik Thorat and council president Mamata Waradkar.

The administration has asked residents to cooperate so that the catching and sterilisation go smoothly, and not to obstruct the teams.

The drive is seen as important for easing the problems caused by stray dogs in the town, and residents will be watching how it is carried out and how far it helps control their numbers.
