Chandrapur: A bear that entered Khalwaspeth village in Mul taluka before dawn on Friday, October 9, got stuck in a narrow gap between the walls of two houses. A forest department team worked for about an hour to pull it out safely and released it into its natural habitat after treatment, Tarun Bharat reported.

The bear had come into a pigeon pea field next to the village on Thursday night. When word spread around 5 am on Friday that it was inside the village, a large crowd gathered to see it. As the crowd grew, the bear tried to run towards the forest, but while passing a house it got wedged in the tight space between two walls, causing panic in the village.

Chichpalli range forest officer S V Maheshkar reached the spot with his staff. Mul area assistant S T Tekam, the rapid response unit from Chandrapur, and forest guards and labourers of the Mul sub-range took part in the operation. The bear was let go in the forest after veterinary officers treated it.

The growing movement of wild animals in villages of Mul taluka has again raised concerns about residents' safety, and the crowd that gathered to watch the bear could have made the situation more dangerous. Villagers want the forest department to track wildlife movement and take concrete steps to keep animals out of villages.
