Bring piped natural gas to Dhule amid LPG shortage, 'Mi Dhulekar' urges civic body
A memorandum was given to the additional municipal commissioner; the group says PNG is cheaper and safer

Dhule: The 'Mi Dhulekar' group has demanded that a piped natural gas (PNG) scheme be introduced in the city urgently to end the LPG shortage and black-marketing that followed disruption of supplies because of the war in the Gulf. The group's president Niranjan Bhatwal submitted a memorandum to additional municipal commissioner Karuna Dahale.
International events cause shortages of LPG cylinders and hardship for residents, but cities with PNG have not faced such problems, the memorandum says. The group argues that PNG is cheaper, safer and greener than LPG, and that because it is lighter than air it disperses if it leaks, reducing the risk of fire.
With the city's population growing fast, a PNG network is needed so that hospitals, hotels and industries can run smoothly, the group says. As the central and state governments are also pushing for such schemes, Dhule should get one soon, like other cities in the state, it demanded.
