Buldhana: In view of the drought in the district, Collector Dr Pravinkumar Devare has issued a circular with strict directions for district- and taluka-level officers. Until the drought situation ends, they will need the collector's prior written permission to go on leave or leave their headquarters.
The directions apply to officers of the agriculture, revenue, water resources, rural development, urban development, animal husbandry, water conservation and land records departments, among others. Leave applications must give solid reasons and carry the head of department's remarks, and be submitted to the collector's office.
Leaving headquarters without prior permission, going on unauthorised leave or neglecting duty could lead to action such as suspension and a departmental inquiry under the Maharashtra Civil Services (Discipline and Appeal) Rules, 1979. The administration has also warned of legal action under the Disaster Management Act, 2005, including registering a case if needed.
Departments have also been told to work together on crop inspections, loan restructuring, help for farmers, effective implementation of government relief schemes, water and fodder shortages and quick disposal of citizens' complaints. The aim is that people should not have to keep visiting offices for help and that schemes are not delayed, Buldana Live reported.
