Gevrai: Devotion is building in Gevrai taluka as Navratri approaches. Young men who set out for various goddess shrines to fetch the sacred flame (jyot) are now returning with it, and chants to the goddess and devotional songs can be heard along the taluka's roads.
Youths from across the taluka have gone to bring flames from Tulja Bhavani at Tuljapur, Saptashrungi Devi, Mohatadevi and other shrines. Despite the long journey and fatigue, they are eager to carry the flame to their villages, where preparations are under way to welcome it. The returning groups have made the taluka's roads noticeably busier.
A group of 25 young men from Manyarwadi left on October 8 to bring the flame from Saptashrungi Devi. Now on their way back, they will reach the village on Sunday, October 11, the day of ghatasthapana, when Navratri begins, and are hurrying to arrive in time.
