If you plan to go shopping, cross the boundary for seemollanghan or attend an evening Dasara rally, check the weather first. According to the India Meteorological Department’s forecast, Mumbai will be hot today, while showers are possible in south Konkan and the Kolhapur belt.

District-wise forecast (today, 20 October)

  • Mumbai and suburbs: mainly clear skies, hazy in the morning. Maximum around 36°C, minimum around 26°C.
  • Sindhudurg, Kolhapur and the Kolhapur ghats: light to moderate rain, thunderstorms in places.
  • Thane, Raigad, Ratnagiri: light showers or thundershowers.
  • Nashik and the Nashik ghats, Jalgaon, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: light showers or thundershowers.
  • Pune: no particular warning for the city; light showers possible over the Pune ghats.

On Wednesday, 21 October, light showers are again forecast for Kolhapur and its ghats, parts of Thane, Raigad and Ratnagiri, Nashik, the Pune ghats and the Sambhajinagar area.

Before you step out

  • Carry water in Mumbai’s afternoon heat; the crowds at the rallies can make the heat harder to bear.
  • In Konkan and Kolhapur, take an umbrella or raincoat for seemollanghan or temple visits.
  • When there is lightning, do not stay in an open field or under a lone tree.
