Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: The municipal corporation has taken up repairs to leaks on the main pipeline and work to connect reservoirs of the new water supply scheme, to make the city's supply more reliable. The city's water supply will therefore be shut for 24 hours, from 8 am on Monday, October 12, to 8 am on Tuesday, October 13. The water supply department says it may take one or two days after that for supply to return fully to normal.

An earlier shutdown began on October 9 to repair leaks on the 1,400-mm main pipeline that serves the old city and to cross-connect a 700-mm pipeline of the new scheme. It was meant to last 24 hours but stretched to 30. During that work, a burst pipeline near the railway station was repaired, work was completed in the Panchavati Chowk area and a valve was replaced in a master chamber. Many parts of the old city went without water, residents had to hunt for water, and the supply schedule was pushed back by a day.

During the new shutdown, leaks on the 1,118-mm main pipeline that supplies the city will be repaired. Pipelines feeding reservoirs at Sudhakarnagar, Amernagar, AGP High School and SFS Garkheda will be connected to the main line, and cross-connections will be made to fill the Jyotinagar and Vishwabharati reservoirs.

Because supply will be restored in phases, some areas may get water late, said executive engineer D. P. Gaikwad, who asked residents to store the water they need and use it sparingly. With supply not yet back to normal after the 30-hour shutdown, another cut in the middle of Navratri means residents face more shortages.
