Amravati: Ahead of the Shri Ambadevi Navratri festival, the Amravati Municipal Corporation has installed iron mesh on the city's important and historic Ambadevi bridge. The civic administration had the work done quickly with two aims: the safety of devotees and stopping garbage from being thrown off the bridge into the nullah.

Lakhs of devotees come to Amravati every year during Navratri for darshan at the Shri Ambadevi and Shri Ekvira Devi temples, and the bridge sees heavy crowds and traffic during the festival. The mesh has been put up as a precaution against the risks crowds can pose to devotees.

Garbage thrown from the bridge into the nullah had been adding to the filth, and the mesh will also put a stop to that. Residents and devotees have welcomed the work.
