Akola: In a three-month drive against motorcyclists whose modified silencers make a deafening, firecracker-like noise on the city's roads, the city traffic police removed and seized the altered silencers. On Friday, October 9, a bulldozer was run over 350 of them to destroy them.

The noise from such silencers causes great distress to senior citizens and children, and the number of such riders had grown in recent days. The drive was carried out across the city under the guidance of superintendent of police Archit Chandak and led by traffic branch inspector Vilas Patil.

Although the silencers have been destroyed, action will also be taken against traders selling modified silencers and fancy number plates so that the practice does not return, Chandak told reporters.
